Yavapai County Resolution Highlights Stormwater Recharge and Watershed Health

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution recognizing the role that stormwater infiltration and groundwater recharge play in the health of the county’s water resources.

Resolution No. 2188 was approved September 16 and was published by the county September 25. The resolution highlights the relationship between stormwater, groundwater recharge, aquifers, rivers and watersheds.

Stormwater is more than water moving across streets and other developed surfaces after a rain. Where conditions allow infiltration, some of that water can move into the ground and contribute to groundwater recharge. That makes the way communities manage stormwater relevant to both surface water and groundwater resources.

The county’s announcement describes the resolution as recognizing the significance of stormwater infiltration and recharge to healthy aquifers, rivers and watersheds.
