Yavapai College Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Central Arizona College

The Yavapai College Women’s Volleyball team wrapped up a road trip to Central Arizona College this past weekend with two losses, closing the door on any remaining playoff possibilities for the Roughriders this season.

Friday’s Match
In the first match on Friday, Yavapai College fell 3-1. Mackenzie Strader led the offensive effort with 14 kills, while Keyara Haywood and Hannah Gamez each contributed 10 kills of their own. Setter McKenzie Wright tallied 21 assists to help run the Roughriders’ offense throughout the match.

Defensively, Strader also played a key role in the back row, recording 15 digs. Caitlin Celestino added 14 digs of her own, and Brooke DeWees contributed four solo blocks at the net.

Saturday’s Rematch
The two teams met again on Saturday, with Central Arizona College once again coming out on top, 3-1. Strader continued her strong weekend with 12 kills, while Wright recorded 13 assists to keep the offense moving.

On defense, Yuliana Apodaca led the Roughriders with 16 digs, and Haywood added three solo blocks to round out the team’s defensive effort.

Season Standing
The losses drop Yavapai College’s season record to 9-12, with the team currently holding just one conference win. With the weekend’s results, the Roughriders’ chances of qualifying for postseason play have come to an end for this season.

Despite the outcome, the team has one more home match remaining on the schedule. The Roughriders will host Southern Nevada on Wednesday, October 28, with first serve set for 7 p.m.

Free Admission for Community
Yavapai College continues to offer free admission to home athletic events, including Women’s Volleyball as well as Men’s and Women’s Soccer. Community members and students are encouraged to attend and support the teams as the fall sports season winds down.
