Kirkland Fire Prompts SET Evacuation Alerts for Hillside and Yava Areas

Yavapai County emergency officials have placed rural zones near Hillside and Yava on high alert as ground and air personnel track the emerging Kirkland Fire. The blaze is active northeast of Hillside, approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Kirkland and situated east of Bagdad Road, also known as County Road 15.

According to incident estimates, the wildfire has consumed roughly 750 acres while continuing to push in a northeasterly direction. The Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management is coordinating response operations with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management to monitor activity and protect nearby property.

### Evacuation Zones Shift to SET Status

In response to the wildfire’s path and potential growth, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office placed three designated neighborhood zones into the “SET” stage of emergency readiness. The affected areas include zones YCU-2030, YCU-2105, and YCU-2102.

The SET alert serves as a formal pre-evacuation warning, signaling that significant danger exists in the immediate vicinity. While an immediate departure is not yet mandatory under this status, people living or operating in the designated sectors are urged to prepare their properties and belongings so they can leave without delay if a “GO” evacuation directive follows.

Public safety coordinators caution that sudden shifts in wind patterns and regional weather factors could rapidly alter fire behavior. Because conditions can shift on very short notice, individuals in the alert perimeter should remain vigilant and track official emergency notices.

### Recommended Household Preparations

Emergency management authorities advise households within the SET boundaries to pack vital provisions immediately. Readiness measures include securing prescription medications, identification papers, and critical legal documentation. Families should also set aside essential comfort items and daily necessities for all household members, particularly those requiring specialized medical gear or mobility support.

Preparations must also extend to animals. Community members should assemble travel supplies, carriers, food, and transport plans for household pets as well as neighborhood livestock that may require trailering out of the area.

### Travel Cautions and Emergency Access

With response efforts actively underway, numerous wildland fire engines, utility vehicles, and emergency personnel are traversing local transit routes. Public safety officials are asking all non-essential travelers and area residents to maintain clear travel lanes.

Roadways must remain fully accessible to heavy firefighting equipment. Obstructing thoroughfares or pausing along transit routes hampers response efficiency and poses hazards to operational crews working to contain the perimeter.

### Year-Round Readiness Practices

County disaster personnel emphasize that emergency readiness is an ongoing necessity across the region. Yavapai County advises residents throughout all communities to continuously maintain a “READY” mindset.

Citizens are encouraged to identify their specific neighborhood evacuation zones, formulate family departure strategies, and maintain updated emergency supply kits. Local authorities further remind the public to sign up for countywide emergency alert systems and obtain status updates strictly through recognized public safety channels.
