The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority is accepting applications from local residents interested in serving as an appointed member of its Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Local Board. The selected volunteer will fill an upcoming seat that carries a four-year commitment beginning on January 1, 2027.
This position provides a pathway for civilian involvement in local fire service administration, specifically focusing on matters related to employee retirement memberships.
### Structure of the Retirement Board
The composition of the local retirement board is governed by state law under Arizona Revised Statutes §38-847(A)(3). Under these statutory rules, the five-member panel includes a representative from the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Fire Board who functions as the chairperson.
In addition to the chairperson, the body consists of two members who are elected directly from the fire authority’s participating personnel, alongside two civilian members chosen from the community. The current vacancy represents one of the two appointed citizen positions.
### Duties and Meeting Frequency
The board convenes several times over the course of each year. During these sessions, the panel handles official retirement system business, evaluating and resolving membership topics that fall under its administrative purview.
Appointed members are tasked with reviewing materials and participating in the formal determinations brought forward regarding the personnel retirement system.
### Eligibility Criteria and Qualifications
To be considered for appointment, applicants must maintain residency within specific geographic boundaries. Eligible individuals must reside inside either the Central Yavapai Fire District or the Chino Valley Fire District.
While previous public safety experience is not required, the fire authority has noted that a background in personnel administration is preferred for candidates seeking the seat.
### Application Timeline and Next Steps
Individuals interested in applying must complete and file their materials prior to the upcoming autumn deadline. All application submissions must be received by Monday, November 9, 2026, no later than 4:00 p.m.
Following the close of the filing period, officials will conduct an administrative review of the candidate submissions. Candidate interviews will then be scheduled based on the reviewed applications, leading up to an official appointment before the term starts in January.
Residents with questions about the role, the board’s responsibilities, or the submission process can contact the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority directly by phone at (928) 772-7711.
