Prescott valley activists are close to getting a second ballot initiative, a referendum on an upcoming ballot as they did with Fain Signature Group’s Lakeshore650 3500 homes deal; it has to do with how town council and developers rammed the Amazon warehouse deal through.
Maybe we need a policy that says “loser pays” in all ballot results just like we have lawsuits with a loser pays clause. The developer who gets the zoning change but then loses in the special election must pay for the special election, sometimes as much as $80,000.
Developers will learn their lesson that way.
Council and town manager Davidson don’t care because they are budgeted for special elections and they act as if the expense is no one’s business but theirs. It’s tax money, Greer. Davidson loves having the town’s $200 million in 7 bank accounts. Tax money means nothing to him.
I observed fathers with children and mothers with children going to the library, mainly to pick up or return books but they often stopped by a table outside the library where people were accepting signatures to get the Amazon warehouse issue on a ballot.
It warmed my heart to see parents with children going to the library and then taking time to learn about how council and the town manager could care less about their opinions and how they could do something about it. This is a child’s civic lesson. Children grow up to be wise council members.
Many signatories told people they have never been to a council meeting and many said they don’t want to go. Some cannot stomach watching the fake leaders accomplish only what will put money in the electeds’ pockets. But they sure sign petitions, don’t they Palguta?
Several hard-working people are totaling up thousands of signatures to put the Amazon warehouse issue on the ballot . These are activists who are telling the town that the council keeps failing and they will take back the town. It is incredibly important that the mayor and members of council, developers and our town manager, understand that “the people” will put issues on the ballot when the council fails, and when developers ram things down throats, while whining, “but we followed town paperwork requirements.” Town paperwork requirements must change but all Donna and Erni accomplished this year was streamlining paperwork flow to benefit the developers.
It is unfortunate that special elections cost taxpayers so much money but it has to be done to send the message to our inept mayor who is now the owner of a construction company and a real estate agency at the same time. So he approves property deals while on council, becomes the first to plant a real estate sign, then he builds the structure.
It is obvious that the council is in the business for themselves and developers, period. And don’t care what the voters think; it’s time to rub that smug smile off of Schumacher’s face and rub her nose into yet another ballot issue.
Our wonderful leaky library that cost us more than $20 million, spread out over the years, has become the center of intellectual freedom and the pursuit of information. It has turned into a place where activists meet voters for the pursuit of societal well-being and so its role extends far past a repository of books and into a place of critical thinking.
